Louisville, KY (April 5, 2012) – Light streams in from windows in the cupola, hitting the clock tower and benches in the center of the Town Square. Around the Square, living rooms, a bistro, and a sunroom offer places to sit and visit, bake a batch of cookies or enjoy a moment’s relaxation. Watercolor painting, gardening, foreign language classes and discussion of current events are just a few choices on the day’s agenda. All of this is just a small sample of what seniors in Valparaiso and the surrounding areas have to choose from with today’s opening of Avalon Springs Health Campus and the Legacy at Avalon Springs, the area's newest alternative for senior health and living needs.
Avalon Springs offers a full continuum of senior living and related health care services, including short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, memory care and assisted living; all offered in a homelike setting that features an abundance of private rooms, chef-prepared meals, and services specially tailored to meet residents’ individual preferences. Also located on the Avalon Springs Campus is The Legacy, a neighborhood designed specifically to care for up to 30 people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Avalon Springs will be operated by Trilogy Health Services.
According toRandall Bufford, President and CEO of Trilogy, “Our commitment to a servant leadership culture and our dedication to providing exceptional customer service that exceeds our customers’ expectations are the cornerstones of Trilogy’s operating philosophy. When you have great services, delivered by a dedicated and compassionate team of caregivers in our ‘Town Square’ residential model, the result is a senior living experience that allows our residents to live a truly meaningful life.”
“We like to say you can feel the difference the minute you walk through the doors of one of our campuses, and you see it everywhere you look,” Bufford continued. “From staff engagement and our focus on resident personal preferences, to the local flavors on our menus, and even the names given to our different residential hallways – everything at a Trilogy campus is focused on our customers’ preferences and helping them have strong social connections, and engagement and purpose, while providing options for clinical care.”
Christine Hoover, whose father will be one of the first residents at Avalon Springs commented, "The reason I chose Avalon Springs for my father was because they offer a wide range of care based on each person's current and future needs. I felt confident he would get the care he requires as his personal needs change over the years. The cheerful, colorful decor, and the upbeat attitude of the staff made me feel like I was walking into a resort, and I felt this atmosphere would have a positive effective on his overall mental health."
“We are thrilled to be serving residents of Valparaiso, Porter County and the surrounding communities,” said John Kukla, Executive Director of Avalon Springs. “We look forward to bringing our exceptional approach to resident care and services to area seniors. We had great turnout at our Open House last Sunday and we invite members of the community who have not had a chance to visit Avalon Springs to attend our Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, April 5 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., or to stop by anytime for a personal tour.”
"As part of our Ribbon Cutting, we are awarding a Live a Dream wish to a local senior. Through our Live a Dream program we fulfill a wishes for our campus residents each quarter. Past dreams granted by some of our sister campuses include a ride in a hot air balloon, a make-over, reuniting with an old friend, the chance to pilot a plane again, and a trip to see a favorite sports team play. We are thrilled to be able to grant a wish for an area senior as part of our opening and we look forward to doing the same for our residents."
Avalon Springs Health Campus features private suites with private baths, and numerous living rooms where residents can relax and visit with guests. The resident living areas are organized into neighborhoods, allowing caregivers and residents to truly get to know each other and establish long-term relationships. That same resident-centered focus is carried through to activity planning, menu selection and other campus programs.
The Legacy at Avalon Springs is designed to provide maximum independence and personalized care in a secured environment. The Legacy features “life stations” that encourage residents to engage in familiar tasks, and décor that encourages reminiscing, in addition to a secured courtyard, family-style dining, and private bedrooms with private baths. The specially-designed activity program, based on protocols embraced by advocacy groups such as the Alzheimer’s Association and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, are responsive to the energy patterns of those living with dementia. Staff working in The Legacy receive additional dementia-specific training that encompasses person-centered approaches to care, communication techniques, and behavioral interventions.
